At least seven tourists died in a lake in southeastern Brazil, when a mass of rock collapsed on their boats.

The Minas Gerais state fire brigade said three others were still missing.

The accident also injured more than 30 people, four of whom are still in hospital.

A video clip of the accident, which occurred the day before yesterday, showed a mass of rock separating and falling on tourist boats in Lake Furnas.

It is believed that the rainfall over the past days has dislocated a block of the cliff.

The fire brigade stated that two boats were directly hit, and that all the dead were on board only one boat.

Diving teams have been dispatched to the lake, which is located about 400 kilometers north of São Paulo and whose valleys are a popular tourist destination in the region.

The Brazilian Navy, which participated in the rescue operation, announced the opening of an investigation to determine the causes of the accident.
