Strengthen product safety, better regulate consumer credits… The consumer association UFC-Que Choisir asks Emmanuel Macron to take advantage of the French presidency of the Council of the European Union to allow "more responsible and sustainable consumption" on the continent.

The French position "makes it possible to influence the European agenda and to facilitate negotiations between member states to obtain agreements", notes the association in a press release published on Thursday morning.

She therefore asks Emmanuel Macron to take up "consumer policy", in particular by revising "the regulations on general product safety" to adapt it to the development of online commerce and "to the appearance of new intermediaries" that modify the functioning of the market.

"Commit to more sustainable production methods"

The UFC-Que Choisir also calls for the updating of the directive on consumer credit, to take into account "the surge of mini-credits on the Internet or long-term rentals, the drifts of which" result from "a distressing permissiveness of European legislation ”according to the association. France must "commit to more sustainable modes of production and consumption", still pleads the UFC-Que Choisir.

As part of the energy-climate package, the association is calling for, for example, the introduction of "an obligation of result for professionals in terms of the performance of energy renovation work in housing".

Finally, it calls for “fairer energy taxation, in the service of the energy transition”.

Emmanuel Macron welcomed the members of the European Commission to Paris on Thursday evening to launch the French presidency of the Council of the European Union and advance his priorities.
