In 2021, China Three Gorges Group’s "second generation" Chinese sturgeon artificial breeding has achieved the best record in history. A total of 600,000 fry were incubated and 250,000 juveniles of 10 cm to 20 cm were cultivated.

Relevant data show that the number of juvenile Chinese sturgeon successfully cultivated by the Chinese Sturgeon Research Institute of Three Gorges Group accounted for more than 60% of the total number of juvenile Chinese sturgeon in the country that year.

The "water giant panda" Chinese sturgeon is one of the oldest vertebrates on the earth. It has a history of 140 million years. It is the flagship species of rare and endemic fish in the Yangtze River and has important scientific research and ecological values.

In 1988, Chinese sturgeon was listed as a national first-level key protected wild animal, and in 2010 it was listed as an international critically endangered species by the World Conservation Union (IUCN).
