For two months, a woman in Spain went into hiding with her two underage sons so that the children would not be vaccinated against Corona.

The 46-year-old now surrendered to the authorities and was arrested by order of a judge, as the newspaper "El País" and other media reported on Thursday, citing judicial circles.

The arrest took place in Seville on Wednesday, it said.

In the dispute between the divorced parents, the judiciary had previously found the father who wanted the children vaccinated to be right.

Deprived of custody

The family dispute from Seville had made headlines and excitement in Spain for weeks. According to the father's lawyer, the mother, a teacher, disappeared with her 12 and 14 year old sons on November 4th without a trace. In December, the exasperated father reported his ex-wife. As a punishment for kidnapping one's own children, prison sentences of up to four years are possible in Spain. According to media reports, the mother's custody has already been provisionally withdrawn because of the "escape".

In an interview with "El País", the woman's lawyer criticized the arrest.

“There is no risk of people fleeing,” he said.

In December, the lawyer had justified the actions of his client to the newspaper.

The vaccines had "numerous serious side effects".

"What if the children are vaccinated and then something happens to them?" He asked.

The corona vaccine from the manufacturer Pfizer / Biontech has been allowed to be used in the EU in children and adolescents from the age of twelve since the end of May.

For this age group, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) also gave the green light for the Moderna vaccine in July.

According to the current status, experts rate the vaccination for children as well tolerated, vaccination reactions such as tiredness and headaches are mostly mild to moderate.

According to official information, around a third of all 3.3 million five to eleven year olds in Spain have already been vaccinated for the first time.

So far there have not been any major rallies by vaccination opponents or conspiracy theorists in Spain.
