If a fishermen's cooperative in Niigata Prefecture is working with a private company to develop a device that informs location information in order to quickly detect when a fisherman accidentally falls into the sea and connect it to rescue, if it is commercialized. It is considered to be the first time in Japan.

Development is being carried out by fishery cooperatives and IT-related companies in the remote islands of Niigata Prefecture and Awashimaura Village.

When the device is attached to a life jacket, etc., it is expected to lead to quick rescue by detecting the submergence and sending the location information to a smartphone etc. when it falls into the sea.

Regarding the accidents of fishermen, out of 175 accidents involving dead and missing vessels in Japan during the five years until the end of the year, 95 fishing vessels accounted for more than half, and one person went fishing. There were many accidents at that time, and it was an issue to be aware of the occurrence of the accident and to identify the location.

The device is aimed to be sold by the end of the year, and it is said that the device that is attached to a person and automatically detects that it has fallen into the sea will be the first in the country if it is commercialized.

Masahiro Kamimaru, director of the Awashimaura Fisheries Cooperative, said, "I have seen many people who feel sad because of a fisherman's accident. I hope that fishermen will be able to work with peace of mind."
