A new study revealed that the white blood cells of the immune system are able to carry out an immune reaction to the resistance of the "Omicron" mutant.

And because the “Omicron” mutant contains a higher number of mutations compared to other coronaviruses, it can evade antibodies caused by getting a vaccine or getting infected.

However, if the virus does enter the body, the white blood cells, known as T cells, will attack it.

And the British “PA Media” news agency stated that the new study, conducted by the University of Melbourne and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, included researchers who analyzed more than 1,500 slices of viral proteins of the “Corona” virus associated with acute respiratory syndrome, called “epipers.” It was found that T cells recognize them in patients recovering from the Corona virus or after receiving the vaccine. The study, published in the peer-reviewed journal Versis, indicates that it is unlikely that the omicron mutant will be able to evade T cells. "Although the study is preliminary, we think this is positive news," said Matthew Mackay, a professor at the University of Melbourne and co-author of the study.

"Even if an omicron, or any other mutant, could escape the antibodies, a strong T-cell reaction is still expected to provide protection and help prevent severe disease," he added.

"Based on our data, we would expect, for example, that the T-cell response, which is stimulated by vaccines and boosters, will continue to help provide protection against the omicron mutant, as has been observed for the other mutant," he explained.

According to the researchers, the most worrisome part of the mutant is the proliferation of mutations in its spike protein, which is the primary target for vaccines.
