, a group of teachers from Sciences Po Grenoble denounced "the unfounded attacks" of a colleague whose suspension in December revived the controversy around freedom of expression that is shaking the establishment for several months.

"The insulting remarks peddled by our colleague, who now accuses us of being" an institute for political re-education ", are taken up without any verification by politicians of all levels", deplore about thirty IEP teachers .

Teachers who follow “woke” theories

“What do our detractors know about what is happening at Sciences Po Grenoble?

(…) Have they taken the time to read the collective work that we have produced on the concept of scientific neutrality, yet freely accessible on our blog?

Did they also take the time to interact with our students?

», They add.

This collective also ensures that this "controversy on" wokism "or" cancel culture "(them) is foreign".

Affected by accusations of Islamophobia in March 2021, the German professor Klaus Kinzler described in interviews at the beginning of December the IEP of Grenoble as an institute of "political re-education" by accusing a "hard core" of colleagues, followers according to him “woke” theories, to indoctrinate the students, and the direction to let it go.

These remarks deemed defamatory by the IEP management earned him a suspension.

A day of debates at the heart of the controversy

This decision provoked many political reactions, in particular that of the president LR of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region Laurent Wauquiez, who suspended his funding to the school.

The Minister of Education Jean-Michel Blanquer himself criticized the suspension of the teacher qualifying it as a "formal error" on the part of the management of the IEP and saying "certain that the priority is not not to sanction this gentleman ”.

The beginning of this case dates back to the end of 2020 when Klaus Kinzler and a colleague historian exchanged vehement emails about a day of debates entitled "racism, anti-Semitism and Islamophobia" by challenging this formulation and criticizing Islam.

A petition in support of the suspended professor

On March 4, the professor was, with another teacher, the target of posters accusing him of “Islamophobia” posted by students at the entrance of the institute and relayed on social networks by unions.

In addition, an online petition on the site mesopinions.com, calling for the return of the German teacher to the IEP, collected Tuesday more than 11,500 signatures.

The author of the petition, a supporter of Klaus Kinzler, considers that the teacher is "the victim of an ad nominen campaign of defamation and intimidation by leftist students of the IEP of Grenoble".
