The pressure due to the fifth wave of coronavirus, carried by the Omicron variant, continues in hospitals with nearly 3,000 new admissions in 24 hours, while France on Tuesday recorded a new record of contaminations, according to the latest figures from Health Public France.

Hospitals continue to receive a growing number of patients, with 20,186 hospitalized patients on Tuesday, against 19,606 on Monday, or 2,881 new admissions in 24 hours, according to figures from Public Health France.

Numbers in intensive care far from the first wave

A trend that is also confirmed in critical care services, which accommodate the most serious forms of the disease: in total, these services treated 3,665 patients on Tuesday with 460 admissions in 24 hours, against 3,654 the day before.

By way of comparison, if the number of patients treated in critical care (3,665) remains far from the peak of the first wave (more than 7,000, in 2020) or that of the third (6,001, in 2021), it risks becoming familiar in the short term that of the second wave (4,903, in 2020).

Over 75% of the population fully vaccinated

At the same time, France recorded a record of contaminations on Tuesday with 271,686 cases recorded in 24 hours.

The last record dates back to the end of December, with just over 230,000 new cases in one day.

Over the past seven days, the average number of cases stood at 180,000.

These figures testify to the magnitude of the current wave of the epidemic.

This has been going on since the fall and was relaunched at the end of 2021 by the arrival of the Omicron variant, considerably more contagious than its predecessors even if its severity seems limited In 24 hours, hospitals recorded 297 deaths.

On the vaccination front, 76.9% of French people are fully vaccinated (51,833,129 people), and 78.6% have received at least one injection (53,003,727 people), according to the Directorate General of Health (DGS ).
