With the Omicron variant, the coronavirus epidemic is now breaking all records.
The incidence rate and the positivity rate increased sharply in one week in Pays-de-la-Loire.
The hospitalization and resuscitation figures do not follow this curve.
The Omicron wave is spreading across the country and the numbers are dizzy. The volume of contamination has thus reached a level never seen in Pays-de-la-Loire, according to the latest data from the regional health agency published this Tuesday evening. The regional incidence rate, which measures the number of positive cases in relation to the size of the population, now stands at 1,426 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, more than triple the last week! The positivity rate of the numerous tests carried out in pharmacies or laboratories has also climbed to 16.5% in Pays-de-la-Loire, a level comparable to the peak in autumn 2020. One screening out of six carried out in the region turns out to be now positive for Covid-19.
It is in Sarthe and Loire-Atlantique, where incidence rates exceed 1,500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, that the situation is most worrying.
Vendée is doing a little better than the other departments of Pays-de-la-Loire, even if its incidence rate of 982 cases per 100,000 inhabitants is also a record since the start of the health crisis.
For comparison, the national incidence rate is estimated at 1,699 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, according to the latest data from the Covidtracker site.
No wave in the hospital, yet
Fortunately, the number of hospitalizations is only increasing slightly in Pays-de-la-Loire, according to the ARS.
Some 573 patients are currently hospitalized, compared to around 500 a fortnight ago.
The number of people treated in intensive care in the region is said to be stable, going from 101 to 99 in two weeks.
This is, for now, lower than previous waves, whether in 2021 or 2020.
Thirty additional deaths linked to Covid have been recorded in one week in Pays-de-la-Loire and 76 for two weeks.
Since the start of the epidemic, more than 3,100 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.
