CAF made it official this Tuesday, January 4, there will be a lot of the public in the stadiums preparing to host the matches of the Africa Cup of Nations within a few days.
The presence of supporters has long been uncertain due to
the global health situation due to Covid-19
, but the body finally ruled, considering that a "
drastic limitation of stadium gauges for the CAN Total Energie 2021 was not necessary as is in Cameroon
”.
She recalls in passing that Yaoundé has not imposed any measure in this direction.
80% gauge for Cameroon
“
On a voluntary basis,
however
,
continues CAF in a circular made public
, and in addition to the preventive measures already adopted,
(…)
the following gauges will be applied until further notice: 80% of the stadium capacity for stadiums hosting the 'Cameroon team, 60% of the stadium capacity for other matches
”.
The host country therefore benefits from preferential treatment since its matches will be able to accommodate more spectators.
This surprising measure could thus allow the
Indomitable Lions
to benefit from massive support from their supporters.
The CAF specifies, however, that these gauges could be revised according to the evolution of the health situation.
"
We will ensure the proper implementation of all health precautions taken, to avoid making our competition a source of contamination,
" she concludes.
