When Éric Forestier learned that one of his dairy cows had brucellosis - an infectious disease transmitted by bacteria - he was saddened because he knew she was doomed.

Except that the veterinary services then warned him that his entire herd had to be slaughtered, European regulations oblige!

Heartbreaking for this farmer who has forged strong ties with his animals: “As soon as I walk through the barn door, in the early morning, there is always one to lay his head on my shoulder, to ask me for a hug, a caress ”.

"A public health problem"

"These regulations are very rigid and will not change, because France would risk losing its commercial advantages with other countries", deplores Coralie Amar, veterinarian and support for the breeder.

What Bruno Ferreira, Director General of Food, denies: "It is not a question of valuation but of a public health problem, because brucellosis is also dangerous for operators".

The fate of Eric Forestier's cows unfortunately seems sealed, if we are to believe the testimonies collected in this video from our partner Brut.
