Education and learning will remain the basis for the progress of nations, and I do not mean only economic progress, but moral, social, intellectual and artistic progress, and progress in everything. Education is not just printed certificates or a passport to get a job. Rather, it is linked to research and the discovery of new ways to improve the quality of life and rebuild the earth. Without research, learning and curiosity, man would not have reached inventions that facilitated life and shortened distances, and could not manufacture his medicine and treat his diseases, and higher education in general. Especially it should always be the locomotive that pulls the train of progress and development. Our universities are making a great effort to develop, but it is to a large extent a movement in place, a movement that is not enough to push it to globalization and to attract students from all over the world. No progress will be made without real application of quality standards and not preparing files that are evaluated by the team that contributed to their preparation.
The quality of higher education is an essential axis to transform it into a vital economic sector that moves from being a center of cost to a center of profit and economic prosperity. In order for us to solve the problem, we must first acknowledge the existence of the problem, as there are some clear and known problems, and the solutions are also known and available to everyone. The first problem in many Arab universities is weakness and perhaps the absence of academic integrity. This includes several axes, for example, inequality between Students in evaluation, or random evaluation that does not reflect the actual performance of students, including conflict of interests, such as the faculty member providing private lessons to his students for a high fee, including the undeserved appointment of the children of some faculty members in the position of teaching assistant.In private universities, the situation is worse, as the owners of some universities influence making executive and operational decisions, and they may also interfere in the admission of students to the university and perhaps the results of exams as well. In some private universities, “trustworthy people” are appointed to leadership positions regardless of their educational or academic level. .
Commitment to the application of standards of academic integrity and adherence to the rules of financial, administrative and academic corporate governance is the starting point for improving the image of universities internally and externally, followed by investment in university facilities and educational resources as well as attracting qualified faculty members, and not everyone who obtained a doctorate is fit to teach without preparing it. Therefore, it is necessary to make real rehabilitation programs in teaching methods, especially modern methods in light of distance teaching, as well as in methods of measurement, evaluation and general culture, and that faculty members take into account important issues such as bullying and the requirements of people with special needs, issues of extremism, equality, tolerance, respect and that They contribute to making the university an inclusive environment that enjoys equal opportunities for all.
