Byniumaal

was a phenomenon on the day of its launch, at least within Instagram, the first natural habitat of the firm behind which Andrea Castillo is. And it continues to be so. It is logical: his personal profile makes clear several principles, such as

his understanding of digital aesthetics, his veganism and his training in law

, which gives the brand a new look. Or, at least, a greater understanding of the fashion industry, a sector that she also approached thanks to her heritage:

"I come from a family that has always been in the textile sector,

so since I was little I have been surrounded by fabrics. and sewing machines. I always saw it as a hobby, until when I finished my law degree, I began to be interested in and study that part of the fashion business, the

retail

, marketing ... And

working in the family business creating productions for other brands

.

"

Until it was time to take flight.

It happened in

2020

, that complex and already unforgettable year,

"after a great effort to create my capsule wardrobe

,

" says

Castillo. "I felt that there was

an empty space in which sustainability, quality, femininity and design were found

, and I launched myself into this adventure." A clear and simple motivation, the ones that really tend to work and give firms an honesty that is reflected in each garment. For this reason, the founder does not hide that one of her priorities with Byniumaal was to stay "true" to herself and her lifestyle; the same one that tries to transmit every day through the different contents that they share on social networks (when these lines are written, on Instagram they approach 20,000 followers) and that condenses the principles of

quality, elegance, femininity, independence, design and, of course,

sustainability

, a

ubiquitous term in recent years ... and sometimes groped.

"There will be many times that I misuse the concept myself, nowadays it

is impossible to be 100% sustainable if we live in society," says

Castillo. "The key is to be aware and

be as sustainable as we can, without judgment

." What we were saying: honesty. Which has also led her to trust her lifelong suppliers for this project, which already has several collections on the street.

"We have been working with national suppliers for more than fifteen years, so when we told them about the idea of creating a sustainable brand, they were also updated and together we have been able to create a selection of sustainable and quality fabrics"

explains the lawyer.

"We wanted them to be part of this and not have to look for other foreign suppliers."

And this, as you can imagine, supposes an extra effort in costs, something that has been reflected in their prices, which have experienced a rise recently (also derived from another milestone:

their sale in different points of El Corte Inglés

).

"Everything has been a challenge, because the beginnings are difficult (and even more so, when you are in charge of such a large team of people), but the issue of sustainability was the main challenge," says

Castillo. "

Finding sustainable fabrics and linings, buttons and recycled interlinings ... The CSR

(Corporate Social Responsibility)

certification

of our workshop that ensures sustainable production was also a long and expensive process," he continues.

"Doing things like this is a handicap, and all the effort and investment that brands make to be sustainable, for now, is not reflected in consumer purchasing decisions.

Being transparent is very difficult because it is necessary for the brand itself to have absolute control of each process.

We, being atelier, workshop and retail, know that it is our strong point, but, honestly,

I do not know to what extent sustainability comes to be valued or appreciated by the end customer ".

At the moment, the public, according to Castillo, seems to remain very attached to the heavyweight of

fast fashion

, which "came years ago to stay."

However, there is room for optimism in his speech, very anchored in the reality of the industry (and experience):

"I think that, at least,

brands like Byniumaal will

break with the current monopoly

and open more possibilities within the sector" .

One in which the point of view of the new generations is fundamental: "The fashion industry is a very mature sector, at the head of large brands or industries there are people who have been for more than 30 years, and that brings experience, but for me, the vision of young people is essential: it gives touches of freshness, novelty, change ... "

For Andrea Castillo, those changes he mentions will come "from 2025", which is why he hopes

"to continue learning, creating and growing, and thus be able to truly compete in this sector in a few years

.

"

Because although in this short time of life they have already managed to make a type of

blazer

that is very identifying and the point has become one of their main categories for El Corte Inglés, Castillo continues to keep his feet on the ground. "The

real

me

He does not think five years from now, because the beginnings are difficult and I only think about the present, about being able to continue supporting the team behind, being able to continue creating collections and investing in quality productions, "he explains." But undoubtedly, I feel very grateful for all the people who are betting on this new fashion concept ".

For a moment, we invite you to dream, to let go, and to project that future in which not only the consumer habits of the public have changed, but also the general panorama of the industry.

That is when Castillo can see Byniumaal

"being the benchmark sustainable female brand in our country"

, but also in something greater than the simple sum of the garments.

"Beyond being a brand,

I would like to be a community of women who share a lifestyle

."

Yours.

That of an illusion project rooted in a reality, hopefully, increasingly changing.
