An illegal rave party, which began on Friday evening, still gathered some 1,500 people on Saturday at an industrial site in Saint-Florentin in Yonne, said the department prefecture.

“A large gendarmerie system is in place to secure the area around the site and the traffic routes.

A security perimeter has been installed and alcohol and narcotics checks are underway, ”she said in a statement.

The operation is supported by the deployment of a helicopter and local diversions have been set up near the site of the demonstration.

An open investigation

"By decree, the prefect banned this type of undeclared musical festive gathering that he strongly condemns", added the prefecture, stressing that the gathering had to "end" and that "health monitoring" was provided on site in link with the regional health agency and emergency services. Managed by firefighters, an advanced medical post has been opened to ensure this follow-up, which is also supported by the help of 30 volunteers from the Red Cross, according to the same source.

About 500 vehicles were still parked on Saturday on the outskirts of the industrial site, towards which New Year's revelers had converged the day before in the early evening after meeting in Migennes, less than twenty kilometers from the premises.

The prosecutor of the Republic of Auxerre opened an investigation "for unlawful organization of a festive gathering of a musical nature", concluded the prefecture.
