The Jiangnan heat in summer is unbearable. The "Fisherman's Wharf" in a certain place in Zhejiang was originally a good place to cool off the heat by blowing the sea breeze. Who would have imagined that a horrific incident of killing and throwing corpses took place here.

What is even more bizarre is that after the criminal suspect was brought back to the case, he confessed to the fact that the body was dissected and thrown away, but claimed that he did not remember that he had killed someone...

It dates back to one day in July 2014. The police in a certain area in Zhejiang found a body from the upper limb of the human body outside the seawall. After investigation, the suspect Wang was identified.

After the man came back to the court, he soon admitted that he threw the body into the sea after cutting the body with a knife, but didn't remember whether the person was homicide and how.

Dismembering and throwing the corpse but don't remember to kill, is it pretending to be crazy or stupid, or is it really mentally ill?

The police were unable to determine for a while, so they found a professional organization to hypnotize Wang, but Wang, who was hypnotized, still could not regain his "homicidal memory."

On December 24, 2014, the police found the Forensic Psychiatry Research Office of the Forensic Science and Technology Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as the Division Jianyuan), and entrusted them to investigate Wang’s mental state and criminal responsibility capabilities during the killing, dismemberment and throwing of the body. The status is identified.

Forensic doctor Zhang Qinting took over the case.

He has been working in the psychiatric research room of the Department of Appraisal in 2002, and now he is the deputy director of the department, the chief forensic physician, and a proper expert in the industry.

"I remember clearly about the division and throwing of the corpse, but the memory of the murder was completely lost. This is indeed a bit weird." Zhang Qinting recalled in an interview with a reporter from the Rule of Law Daily. At that time, he checked Wang's interrogation and hypnosis records. It was found that his confession before and after hypnosis was exactly the same.

Before accepting the case, Zhang Qinting reminded the police to perform two checks on Wang. The first is a 24-hour ambulatory electroencephalogram. The purpose is to check for epilepsy, because during the epileptic seizure, the patient has consciousness disorder and cannot control himself, which may lead to murder. ; The second is to do brain magnetic resonance to investigate the possibility of organic changes in Wang's brain.

On January 12, 2015, Zhang Qinting finally met Wang.

Wang appears to be an introverted man who communicates and is barrier-free.

As the conversation with Wang progressed, the case became clear.

Wang and the deceased Zhang were not locals, and they were not familiar with each other. They first met on a train. At that time, Zhang had no seats, so Wang kindly borrowed a small stool for him, so the two of them stayed in touch. Way, but never contacted afterwards.

It was not until a week before the incident that Zhang suddenly contacted Wang and said that he wanted to find a job with him. The two came to the scene of the incident and rented a house together and became roommates.

But a few days later, Zhang suddenly said he was leaving and didn't want to stay here anymore.

Wang was a little unhappy: "I agreed to find a job together, but now I just want to leave!"

Unexpectedly, early the next morning, Wang found out that Zhang was dead!

And he can't remember what happened the night before.

"He said he just persuaded Zhang to leave tomorrow, and then fell asleep." Zhang Qinting said, Wang's statement is consistent with the previous interrogation transcript.

"He recalled that when he woke up and found that his hands were full of blood, he was also half-deadly scared at the time, because he really didn't know what happened the night before. He insisted that although he was upset, he didn't fight with Zhang, and didn't even want to kill. Zhang. But thinking that the two were in the same room, if the crime happened, I would not be able to get out of the relationship, so I decided to take a knife to disassemble Zhang's body, and then threw the body parts into the sea." Zhang Qinting described Wang's confession in this way. .

Is the man with few words and shameless appearance in front of him a cruel murderer?

There are more and more questions in Zhang Qinting's heart.

At that time, Wang also told Zhang Qinting that he usually doesn’t see others crying, and when he sees someone crying, he wants to lose his temper. He once fell to the ground and didn’t wake up, but he didn’t convulse. It shouldn’t be epilepsy. Not only that, but also Suspected of sleepwalking symptoms.

"Someone told me the next day that I fell asleep the night before and suddenly got up to organize things, but I can't remember it at all."

According to the clues he has already mastered, Zhang Qinting suspects that Wang is likely to suffer from sleepwalking (also known as "sleepwalking").

So Zhang Qinting contacted the local police and asked them to cooperate in relevant investigations to confirm his speculation.

"The first is to investigate whether there is a money entanglement between Wang and Zhang, and the second is to investigate whether Wang drank alcohol on that day, and later both aspects were ruled out." Zhang Qinting told reporters.

The police also visited Wang's hometown and the detention center where he had been detained, looking for clues from people who had contact with him.

"Wang's family and neighbors have confirmed that Wang's husband and wife relationship is not good. When he loses his temper, he can't help beating his wife and children." Zhang Qinting said.

In this way, Wang is a person with irritable personality, which forms a great contrast with the dullness in front of him.

Zhang Qinting then made a professional questionnaire for Wang, and analyzed that he has a highly sensitive, nervous and anxious personality, and even has a bit of anti-social personality.

The clues the police got after the incident confirmed Zhang Qinting's suspicion once again.

"His wife reported that when they were working together, they found him many times to get up in the middle of the night to pack things, and he refused to say yes to him, and asked him the next day if he remembered." A similar situation also happened in the detention center.

Zhang Qinting also ruled out the possibility that Wang had auditory hallucinations, hallucinations and delusions.

A series of rigorous investigations and objective evidence allowed Zhang Qinting to confirm that Wang's diagnosis of sleepwalking was established, but he believed that his state at the time of the murder did not completely meet the diagnostic points of sleepwalking or pathological semi-awake state.

"Extreme violent behaviors such as homicide are more common in pathological semi-awake states rather than sleepwalking disorders. The so-called pathological semi-awake states generally have physical or emotional factors as triggers, resulting in unconsciousness, fragmentary illusions, hallucinations, panic and anger Emotions and other symptoms are obviously not in line with the situation in this case." Zhang Qinting explained.

Combining with the fact that the actual cause and purpose of crimes such as profit and drunkenness were ruled out by the public security organs during the investigation process, Zhang Qinting believes that Wang’s symptoms can be diagnosed as non-organic sleep disorders.

Wang had a consciousness barrier during the killing, and lost the ability to substantively identify and control. Forensic doctors considered his murder as incapable of criminal responsibility; but in the process of dissecting and throwing the body, he had a clear consciousness and mental state Normal, so it can be assessed as having full capacity for criminal responsibility.

After nearly 4 months, Zhang Qinting finally clarified all the mental conditions of Wang’s killing, dismemberment, and throwing of the body, and handed the appraisal opinion to the police. According to this appraisal opinion, Wang was transferred for investigation and prosecution on suspicion of insulting the corpse. .

"A homicide of such a bad nature can be'excused' just because of your appraisal opinion. Is this reliable?" Faced with reporters' questions, Zhang Qinting said: "This is the difficulty of psychiatry. We can't do it at will. To draw a conclusion, a series of rigorous, scientific and objective investigations and diagnoses are required, and all possible factors are eliminated before the conclusion can be drawn."

He told reporters that psychiatric appraisal is not a psychological test. Every link must be carefully designed to withstand scrutiny and verification.
