"Hashish" is at the forefront of the most abused drug in Egypt during 2021

The Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse, affiliated with the Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity, revealed the most prevalent narcotic substances in terms of abuse in Egypt during 2021, in addition to the governorates most frequented on the fund's hotline 16023.

The drug of cannabis swept the first place, as the effect of substances abused during the year 2021, with a percentage of 51.20%, while heroin came in second place with a percentage of 41.92%, then tramadol with about 31.60%, while synthetic drugs ranked, where shabu, crystal, strux and voodoo, by 18.87%, According to the Addiction Control Fund.

Cairo governorate ranked first as the most governorates received by the fund’s hotline, including calls to seek treatment by 33.45%, while Giza governorate reached about 12.40%, and the Fund attributed this to the high population, ease of communication and the spatial proximity of hospitals cooperating with the hotline for treatment seekers.

The fight against addiction provided its treatment services throughout 2021, to about 143,833 new patients, in addition to following up on those who attended the treatment centers of the Fund’s partner with the hotline. The percentage of males from those services was about 94.66%, while the percentage of females was 5.34%.

The data of callers to the hotline throughout the year revealed that abuse from the age of 15 to 20 years occupied the majority of the respondents, as it came with 44.50%, while there were 34.65% who started from the age of 20 to 30 years, while it was stated in Under 15 years of age, 13.63%.
