The world of events on its knees.

The sector, responsible for the organization of events, said Tuesday "amazed" by the limitation of gatherings to 2,000 people indoors and 5,000 outdoors, which will cause a series of cancellations, demanding government aid.

“In a year and a half of crisis, we have never experienced such a measure, so sudden and disproportionate.

The consequences will be terrible, and we are asking, like the Italian model, for logical compensations ”, declared Renaud Hamaide and Pierre-Louis Roucaries, the co-presidents of the French Union of Event Trades (Unimev) , in a statement released Tuesday evening.

"In January 2022 alone, 130 events have already been canceled and a loss of turnover of around 1 billion euros and as much in economic benefits for the territories", argued the union.

"Abyssal losses"

Among its 400 members, Unimev counts organizers of fairs, exhibitions and congresses, exhibition centers and congress centers.

The sector "is recording abysmal losses which will increase with these new measures", he worries.

Among the major events postponed to deal with the outbreak of contaminations is the 49th Angoulême international comic book festival, initially scheduled for January 27 to 30, 2022.
