An avalanche activity is "expected over the next 24 hours" in the departments of Savoie and Haute-Savoie, warns Météo-France this Tuesday at 4 pm.

They will be able to reach "exposed road sectors as well as mountain infrastructures".

Higher in altitude, it is to be expected that there will be many departures in dry snow which may end their route by carrying wet snow at the lower altitudes.

The avalanche risk is high on all the Haute-Savoie massifs.

In detail, it is marked as evolving strongly on the Beaufortain, Haute-Tarentaise, Vanoise, Haute-Maurienne and Maurienne massifs and marked on the Bauges massif.

A bad snow-rain combo

The current snowfall at 1800-2000 meters will continue and intensify throughout the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, explains Météo-France, which then forecasts more intense precipitation "from Wednesday morning, accompanied by a very net redoux ”.

Result: "Many avalanches of wet snow will start on Wednesday with the return of the rain, which could take the entire snowpack in place", indicates Météo France.
