A bus collided with a runaway water buffalo on the island of Rügen.
As the police announced on Saturday evening, the empty bus was driving on a country road between Mukran and Prora when it suddenly collided with the adult.
The animal suffered serious injuries and had to be killed by a police officer with a service weapon.
The 48-year-old bus driver was unharmed, he had no passengers on board.
According to the police, the owner of the farm from which the animal escaped was responsible for the collection of the animal carcass.
Accordingly, there was a total damage of estimated 10,000 euros.
The bus was able to continue its journey.
The water buffalo, which come from Asia, are only rarely bred in Germany.
They are often used in landscape maintenance to keep wetlands and bog areas as well as pastures free from unwanted vegetation.
