The Narita Airport Corporation has announced that it will start preparatory work for a new runway and extension of the runway with the aim of completing it in seven years from next fall.

At Narita Airport, in order to increase the number of departures and arrivals of aircraft to 500,000 times a year, which is more than 1.5 times the current number, we will increase the number of runways that are currently two by one, construct a third runway C, and make runway B the current one. Plans are underway to extend from 2500 meters to 3500 meters, with the goal of completing it by the end of March 2029, more than seven years later.

Regarding this preparatory work, the Narita Airport Company announced that it will start construction of the road related to the extension of the runway in the fall of next year, and will start construction of the new runway in the next fiscal year.

In the future, we will proceed with negotiations for land acquisition and investigation of buried cultural properties in earnest.

Akihiko Tamura, president of Narita International Airport Corporation, said at a press conference on the 23rd, "I would like to proceed with the plan by providing detailed explanations and information to the local people in order to develop the airport and the region."
