[Commentary] On December 22, Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, met with the media in Beijing.

She said that the new Legislative Council elected not long ago can fully ensure that "patriots govern Hong Kong" and is also very representative.

  The 90 elected parliamentarians come from different backgrounds.

I believe and hope that in the future, (they) can do some practical things for Hong Kong through the Legislative Council.

  So I expect that the future Legislative Council will be able to better represent Hong Kong’s public opinion and bring Hong Kong’s opinions from various quarters to the Legislative Council. It will have full cooperation and coordination with the executive authorities, and of course, it will also supervise our work for the sake of Hong Kong people. Do more constructive and developmental undertakings.

  [Explanation] Carrie Lam pointed out that this election is the first Legislative Council election after the Hong Kong electoral system has been improved.

In the process, the selection work was fair, just, open, clean, efficient, and humane.

  [Commentary] Carrie Lam said that the recent criticisms of Hong Kong elections by some countries in the United States and the West are unfounded.

The new electoral system is more in line with the actual situation in Hong Kong.
