Long hair is in fashion this fall: this is how it is worn according to hairdressers (and celebrities)
These are the three most flattering haircuts, hairdresser word
Eating the grapes that ushered in the new millennium and that straight hair became the trend with capital letters was all one.
It is true that
the 90s
gradually banished
the curls
that were so desired in the 80s, but the 2000s completely ended them.
It is not surprising then that in the first years of the second millennium those perms that in the 80s were made to curl, which was what was whistling loudest then, were reverted
into permanent
straightening
.
Thus, in 2002,
Japanese straightening,
also known as
Yuko System,
arrived in Spain and swept away,
and curly manes disappeared almost completely from the face of the peninsula.
It is a fact.
I am the only curly haired person I know who
did not go through the
Japanese
ironing technique
.
Already delving into the past, we will remember that Japanese straightening became popular as Yuko in homage to its creator, the Japanese stylist and businesswoman
Yuko Yamashita,
who began to revolutionize the world market in 1996, conquering the United States in 2000 (and the rest is history).
From Japanese straightening .. to Brazilian
Not only against curls did that Yuko System fight, but also against frizz and 'bad hair' derived from hot and humid climates.
The ultimate goal was for the manes to look
smooth, soft, shiny
and effortlessly manageable.
The process that was followed was very similar to that carried out with
a hair dye: it
is applied
a product that partially dehydrogenates the hair;
it is washed, ironed, rinsed and dried.
We already know that when something is all the rage, it doesn't take long for the competition to arrive.
Thus, as
Verónica Castro,
director of Vanitas Espai,
recalls
Brazilian hair straighteners
also landed in Europe
."
And passion was unleashed again.
"They were all the rage in Spain,
a country where Mediterranean hair with a tendency to frizz became tame as if by magic," explains Castro.
The thing with them was that they did not leave their hair straight, lest the manes of curls or waves wake up one day regretting having lost them, but with these
more relaxed,
manageable and without frizz.
However, alas, the Brazilian dream turned into a nightmare when it was confirmed that the main component of the treatment was
formaldehyde,
whose concentration was reduced to a minimum and was even withdrawn from the market, replaced by
keratin.
And hence countless other treatments to
tame unruly hair
without having to 'intervene' on a daily basis, such as taninoplasty, capillary botox, enzyme therapy, organic keratin ...
Of course, long-lasting straighteners are still the kings, that's why we put the most popular ones under the microscope, so you don't get lost when choosing yours.
Organic or semi-permanent straightening: what is it and for what type of hair
Organic straightening allows hair to be styled in waves, but frees it from frizz.
We went to an expert in the field to enlighten us, the hairdresser
Sonia Atanes,
from the Sonia Atanes Hair Beauty salon (in Madrid, Paseo de la Castellana, 247).
Organic straighteners
are gentler both due to their process and their composition.
And although they are formulated with principles of organic origin, do not let their name mislead you: they need
chemicals
to obtain results.
It is what it is, there is no absolute hair transformation without chemistry, let's talk about straightening
or dyes and highlights.
"The difference in organic ones is that they seek
a balance between the health of the hair
and its texture," Atanes emphasizes.
And that is precisely why they
do not smooth definitively
or the effect is
table-like.
The process, summarized, consists of filling the 'empty' areas of each hair with the specific product, which generates
a new internal structure
that gives new support to the hair.
After absorption, the excess product is removed with water and cauterized with an iron to fix it on the hair.
In this way, the hair bridges are not damaged and little by little, after a few months,
the hair, all of it, will return to its natural shape.
The advantages
of these straighteners is that they leave a
very natural effect,
respecting the hair and leaving it very shiny.
And they allow to be styled
with waves or curls.
For what type of hair is it recommended
.
Actually, anyone could do an organic straightening, because "the hair
maintains its movement and elasticity
and is perfect to stop abusing the irons on a daily basis; if you are constant, your hair will have completely changed in a year", points out Sonia Atanes .
Of course, if the hair is chemically treated (with dyes or highlights) it is necessary to continue the treatment at home since approximately 30% of the result will depend on
its correct maintenance.
The definitive straightening (Japanese, Brazilian, keratin ...): what they do and in which hair
A definitive straightening leaves hair table straight.
Sonia Atanes explains that they are those who leave hair completely straight without having to do anything at home.
Japanese, some keratins and other Brazilian
are ascribed to them
.
"They carry a more powerful chemical load that breaks the bonds of the hair in a definitive way,
leaving it completely smooth," he
says.
The hairdresser warns in these cases that you have to
flee from bargain prices:
these straighteners are expensive, if you find one at a bargain price, be suspicious.
Among its advantages are that the hair is
completely smooth,
with a lot of shine and you forget about the dryers.
But they
have a root effect:
the already straightened part never returns to its natural shape while the new hair is born naturally.
You also have to take into account that you have to wait a while before washing your hair after the process, do not put rubber bands or hairpins on and you cannot comb your hair in any way that is not straight.
Which hair can be permanently straightened.
Unlike organic, Atanes only recommends it for very healthy and resistant hair.
