Kim Kardashian is working alongside Rogel Aguilera-Mederos, who was sentenced last week to 110 years in prison, after being found guilty of causing the death of four people in a road accident in 2019. This Cuban immigrant was driving the truck of the company which employed him when the brakes failed.

He lost control of his heavyweight, which ended up in several stationary cars on a Colorado highway.

Investigation showed that he was sober at the time of the accident and that the brakes were faulty.

“Another shocking and unfair aspect of this case is that the judge did not want to sentence him to such a long prison term.

Only, because of the mandatory minimum sentences in Colorado, his hands were tied.

Mandatory minimum sentences prevent judgment on a case-by-case basis and must be abolished, ”Kim Kardashian shared on Twitter.

In addition, Colorado does not apply the principle of non-cumulative sentences.

Rogel Aguilera-Mederos was convicted of a total of 27 offenses.

The governor called for clemency

The businesswoman, who already has some legal successes to her credit, has therefore challenged the governor of the state, Jared Polis.

“The governor of Colorado is a good person and I know he will make the right choice,” she added.

A petition has also been started on Change.org by Colorado resident Heather Gilbee asking the Democratic governor to grant the driver leniency or commute his sentence.

“This accident was not intentional, and there was no foul play by the driver.

No one, apart from the transport company which employed him, should be held responsible for this accident ”, we can read.

More than 4.6 million people have signed the petition.

Jared Polis said in a statement that he was "aware of the situation" and that his "team is studying each request for leniency individually".
