For his part, a member of the Libyan House of Representatives, Jibril Ouhaida, said that there is an undeclared agreement that holding the presidential elections on the 24th of this month has become not possible, stressing that the solution lies in postponing them to a later date in the hope of solving the problems that impeded their holding at the present time.

Once again, Libya's path towards the upcoming presidential elections is faltering. In addition to the security tension that has resurfaced in the capital, Tripoli, raising questions about its background and possible repercussions, the Electoral Commission confirms that the date of the 24th of this month is no longer appropriate to meet it, despite the keenness of the United Nations and concerned countries With the Libyan crisis, the Libyans turned to the polls to get out of the conflict and into peaceful political competition.

In light of the developments on the ground, sources told Al Jazeera that the President of the Presidential Council, Muhammad Al-Manfi, is holding intensive meetings with a number of security and military leaders to try to end the state of security alert in Tripoli.

The Presidential Council had issued a number of decisions related to the rearrangement of security and military institutions in the capital, Tripoli.

On the other hand, the Joint Military Committee held a meeting in the city of Sirte at the invitation of Stephanie Williams, Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, as part of its round of meetings with political and military parties to discuss the latest developments in the work of the committee and its implementation of the terms of the ceasefire.

The meeting coincided with the dispatch of the forces of retired Major General Khalifa Haftar, reinforcements from the "106th Brigade" - led by his son Khaled - to Sebha to strengthen their deployment in the city.

On the political side, the controversy continues over the date of organizing the presidential elections in Libya, scheduled for the 24th of this month.

During her meeting with the President of the Supreme Council of State, Khaled Al-Mashri, Stephanie Williams stressed the need to respect the people's demand for free and fair elections.

For his part, Al-Mashri held the Presidency of the House of Representatives and the Supreme Judicial Council responsible for what he called the obstruction of the electoral process, while the head of the Parliament's Internal Affairs Committee, Suleiman Al-Harari, called on the authorities to announce the impossibility of holding the elections.

A member of the High National Elections Commission in Libya, Abu Bakr Marda, had told Al Jazeera that holding the presidential elections at the predetermined time has become not possible, as the remaining period is not enough for electoral propaganda.

Marda added that the commission asked the committee concerned with following up the electoral process to make amendments to the laws regulating voting.

He also stressed that the commission is technically ready to hold the elections if a new date is set, and that its work in the next stage will depend on other partners such as the Ministry of Interior and the Supreme Judicial Council.
