According to an estimate, the number of homeless people in Germany rose by eight percent to 256,000 people between 2018 and 2020.

There was an increase of 9.3 percent from 2018 to 2019, and then a slight decrease of 1.5 percent from 2019 to 2020, announced the Federal Homeless Aid Association (BAGW) on Tuesday in Berlin.

The managing director of the homeless assistance, Werena Rosenke, explained that because of the corona pandemic, those seeking help would probably not have been able to dock with the help system as usual in 2020 because the facilities had to restrict their services.

"So we have to assume that there are more people who are homeless undercover," explained Rosenke.
