Extraordinary Christmas Draw in Spain

, in December 2019 nine words from the lexicon of our Lottery were incorporated into the update of the 23rd edition of the Dictionary of the Spanish language (DLE), which were approved by the academies that make up the Association of Academies of the Spanish Language (ASALE).

Thus, every December 22, on the occasion

of the Christmas Draw

, millions of people hear words such as wire, cup, lyre, umbrella, table, hopper and trumpet with a meaning that can be consulted in the academic dictionary.

But do we know what each thing is?

This is the necessary vocabulary to be prepared for the day of the Draw.

Wire

: In the lottery of some countries, each of the wires in which the balls of the winning numbers and those of their corresponding prizes are strung, once extracted from the bass drum.

Chapel

: In the Spanish lottery, the final model of a tenth or a ticket, in which a number of the draw has not yet been printed.

Cup

: In the lottery of some countries, a wide and transparent container, in the shape of a cup, where the ball that comes out of the bass drum falls after sliding down the trumpet.

Lyre

: In the lottery of some countries, a device made up of ten metal rods where the balls are arranged after counting and checking before inserting them into the drum.
