Media said that the Italian-born British engineer Richard Rodgers, who designed famous buildings, including the Pompidou Center in Paris and the Millennium Dome in London, has died at the age of 88.

And the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) quoted a spokesman as saying that he "died quietly" on Saturday evening.

His well-known designs include the Lloyd's Building in London, the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, and several lounges at Heathrow Airport in London and at an airport in Madrid.

Rodger received many honors in his field and was knighted in 1991, although not everyone liked his work, and Prince Charles, heir to the British throne, criticized his designs on several occasions.
