The finale of season 1 ended on a huge cliffhanger… Netflix this Wednesday ends more than a year of almost unbearable waiting!

Emily in Paris

fans

will finally find out what happens to the love triangle formed by Emily, Gabriel and Camille.

To wait until then,

20 Minutes

had the pleasure of discussing in videoconference with the charming and sparkling Lily Collins and Ashley Park, the interpreters of Emily and her BFF in Paris, Mindy, whose role is growing. for our greatest happiness this season 2.

Season 1 was a huge success, not too much pressure for Season 2?

Ashley Park.

This pressure motivates us!

We were so happy that so many people watched this series.

Lily Collins.

I think it is exactly the same.

We were so grateful to be able to tour again, even in the midst of a pandemic.

We didn't know if we would be able to do it.

The protocols have been modified to ensure that we can do it safely and review the other players and our French team.

We were able to make it so that Emily and the other characters could have stories and immerse themselves in French culture differently than in season 1. It was an incredible chance!

We were all very excited about the idea.

Lily, what is Emily's state of mind at the start of this season?

LC She is elated but disturbed… Her moral compass has been shaken.

She values her moral code and her loyalty as a friend and as a human being.

It matures very quickly in this foreign city.

In season 2, she's more grounded, because she's starting to acclimatize.

She is thirsty for work and to find peace in the situation with Gabrielle and Camille.

She also feels this need to have fun with this new character, Alfie [Lucien Laviscount].

So there are a lot of emotions in 10 episodes, with all the characters, which still makes it a series to watch on repeat.

In this season Lily and Mindy become roommates, how would you describe their relationship?

AP They are super functional roommates.

In season 1, we saw them discussing while dining, there, their friendship takes another turn.

They will find out that they can count on each other, because you can't hide from your roommate when something is wrong.

They also became very good at reading each other's minds.

In this season, they finish each other's sentences, much like Lily and I in life.

Ashley, your character, Mindy, sings a lot this season.

Did you have a say in the choice of songs?

AP I was lucky to have the list of songs of my dreams!

I asked for a Celine Dion song and they said “yes”, a K-Pop song, they chose a BTS song, a Broadway classic, and I'm singing a contemporary Broadway song.

I also wanted to sing in French.

It's easier to sing in French because the vowels are warmer and rounder, this dream has also come true.

Were the sung scenes more difficult to shoot?

These scenes are very difficult to shoot because they require a lot more preparation than just memorizing lines, especially the way the songs are sometimes integrated into the scenes.

But they are very rewarding when everything is finished and you discover the result!

Lily, you can sing, wouldn't you love to have a special musical episode in season 3?

LC This could be some kind of alcoholic karaoke for Emily…

AP She could do it in an emergency for Mindy, if she lost her voice…

LC Oh my God, it's funny!

There would be a way to make that happen, but it would have to be a joke, in the sense that Emily knows she's not Mindy…

AP But Lily Collins has a beautiful voice, so ...

The soundtrack is once again fabulous, do you listen to French song, and if so, who are your favorite French artists?

LC.

I love Christine and the Queens!

AP Me too, I also listen to Angèle's last album.

LC I grew up traveling a lot in Europe.

I remember in the car I always listened to NRJ [She hums the jingle on the radio].

It was French rap, old R & B hits… Now, I mostly listen to French pop, music full of soul.

You have been working for two seasons in France, what has surprised you the most in France or among the French?

LC Respect for the profession.

Everyone behind the camera is so good and dedicated to their craft.

It creates a good dynamic on set, and it contributes to the smooth running of the shoot and the aesthetic that we want for the series.

But as good as they are, the French manage to find a balance between private and family life and professional life.

Weekends are an opportunity to relax, to live your life, to be, to exist and to breathe… It is a source of inspiration for someone who likes to work, but also to live.

AP I learned French growing up.

Coming to France, I thought I had to speak French and really learn the language.

The funny thing is that everyone I meet wants us to speak English in order to practice.

After Paris, the Champagne region and Saint-Tropez in this season 2, where would you like to shoot in France?

AP We had the pleasure of being invited to the French Embassy in Washington DC, over there, the Ambassador of Monaco invited us to come and shoot in Monaco and therefore… ..

LC That would be nice!

When I was on vacation, we took a trip to Etretat with my husband.

We discovered small towns with beautiful architecture, it would be beautiful and picturesque to organize an event in a castle in that area, not a castle like that of Camille's family, a more medieval castle.

AP In Marseille, that would be fun too!

LC I'd love to!

If you had to sum up this season 2 in three words?

LC I think enchanting, funny and ...

AP… Sincere!
