Picard will soon be able to be taught in schools in Oise.

This is confirmed by a circular published Thursday in the official bulletin of National Education.

The document authorizes the teaching of this language in schools dependent on the Amiens academy, reports

Le Parisien

.

A "historic event"

This learning will be done "within the framework of the usual schedules of the pupils and in the respect of the programs of modern languages of the National Education", indicates the rectorate of Hauts-de-France.

After obtaining this authorization, the academy must "henceforth work concretely and in consultation on the outlines (content, pedagogy, human resources, training)" of teaching Picard.

The objective is to start teaching from the start of the 2022 school year. This is a “historic event” according to Olivier Engelaere, director of the Regional Agency for the Picardy language.

He welcomes "a strong gesture on the part of the government".

A decision also welcomed by the president of the region, Xavier Bertrand, who was delighted with the "good news".
