End of the year tense on the shelves of hypermarkets and Auchan supermarkets.

The employees of about thirty stores of the large-scale distribution brand are called on strike this Friday by the inter-union CFDT-CGT-FO, which calls for wage increases, and deplores an end of non-reception "humiliating" of the share of management.

Against the backdrop of compulsory annual negotiations (NAO), employees of Cherbourg, Perpignan, Strasbourg and Annecy participate in filter dams and walkouts, Gilles Martin, CFDT central union delegate, told AFP.

Inflation pointed out

Some hypermarkets are "impacted up to 80%", and the warehouse of Carvin, in Pas-de-Calais, was blocked Friday morning by several employees of the sign, according to the union representative.

The striking employees demand a significant general increase in wages "of at least 5%", and denounce an offer "unworthy" of the management, which proposes an increase of 2.2%.

"With inflation, the first salary levels will fall below the minimum wage on January 1," said Gilles Martin.

Management ensures that it is mobilized on the issue of the purchasing power of its employees: "It is for this reason that we have decided to anticipate our NAOs, which usually take place in March," said a spokesperson for Auchan.

The supermarket chain specifies that the increases can go "up to 4% depending on the category", and that the compensation of 100 euros will be doubled for the employees concerned.

"We will be at the level of inflation," says the distributor.

A movement that could "gain momentum"

"We were called" heroes "during the Covid-19 crisis, we were asked to make considerable efforts, and today, we see that there is no desire to reward employees", regrets Gilles Martin.

If the staff representatives are not received by the management, the CFDT delegate assures that the movement "may gain momentum" on Saturday, and that it could last "until Christmas", in particular at the Carvin warehouse .

Calls to strike have multiplied in recent days in the trade and mass distribution sector: a strike day is also scheduled for Saturday in the Action discount stores, the CGT said in a statement.

Carrefour employees are also called on to walk out and block the group's warehouses by the union between December 18 and 24.

During this strategic period of the end of the year holidays, these blockages could disrupt the supply of stores.

"It is not in our DNA to strike during this period, but the employees are overwhelmed, and the payment of 750 million euros in dividends to shareholders was provocation too much", explains Mr. Martin.
