More than four decades after the right-wing extremist Oktoberfest attack, a survivor reached an agreement with the Free State of Bavaria on compensation payments.

The 52-year-old Robert Höckmayr, who was seriously injured in the bomb explosion in 1980, agreed to a settlement on Friday at the Munich Social Court.

Accordingly, he is entitled to a so-called basic pension of 60 percent.

Höckmayr had sued because he considered the pension of 50 percent paid so far to be too low, especially since his physical and mental health had deteriorated further in recent years.

The person concerned claims damage to the spine and hearing, as well as a post-traumatic stress disorder.

The Free State is now fully recognizing this for the first time.

According to his lawyer, the new regulation means almost EUR 400 additional pension payments per month.

They have been paid retrospectively since 2015.

In the attack on September 26, 1980, two younger Höckmayr siblings died in front of his eyes.

The deed committed by the right-wing extremist student Gundolf Koehler, he killed twelve Wiesn visitors and Koehler.

More than 200 people were injured.
