Chebbi criticized the measures announced by Said recently, and said that they are the president's agenda, which is doomed to failure, but in return he stressed the importance of returning to legitimacy through a national dialogue that brings together all the parties to the crisis, including President Said himself.

In a speech a few days before the anniversary of the December 17, 2010 revolution, which overthrew the regime of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, President Said announced the continuation of freezing the parliament's powers until early elections are organized on December 17, 2022.

While he talked about the dispersal of the political opposition and the existence of a slack in civil society, Chebbi indicated - in his speech to an episode 16/12/2021) of the "Scenarios" program - that coordination with the Ennahda party is still premature, but he made it clear that Ennahda can mobilize thousands of people. The demonstrators, and this is important in addressing what he called the coup.

He also stressed that peaceful demonstration is a legitimate act against those who deviate from legitimacy and seek to establish an individual rule.

The Secretary-General of the Democratic Current, Ghazi al-Shawashi, spoke of President Said's lack of interest in the economic and social situation in the country, and pointed out that it is this element that is helping to erode his popularity.

In Al-Shawashi's opinion, political parties and civil society forces are required to struggle and resist and to search for an alternative for the next stage in order to return quickly to the democratic and constitutional path.

For his part, the former minister and head of the Arab Democracy Institute Khaled Shawkat indicated the president's indifference to the economic and social crisis, even though the Tunisian revolution had demands related to employment, development and the fight against corruption.

As for the researcher at the Carnegie Middle East Center, Hamza Meddeb, he pointed out that there is what he called a paradox in Tunisia, where the front of rejection of the president's actions is about to expand, but without unifying.

He called for the necessity of political parties to carry out a self-rescue procedure and evaluation in order to know the reasons that led Tunisia to the current situation, in addition to the necessity of making a change in leaders, and unifying the situation to deal with the situation.

In his speech to the "Scenarios" episode, the Tunisian guest concluded the importance of developing a vision for Tunisia's future and searching for how to rebuild democracy in the country.

The security and military institutions... What role?

Concerning the role of the security and military institutions and their call for frankness with the president or not responding to his demands, Chebbi stressed that this issue is on the table, and that the two institutions have two options: either go to confront the citizens or appeal to their conscience to avoid Tunisia falling into the quagmire of chaos and violence.

The former minister and head of the Arab Democracy Institute said that Saied can rely on these two institutions, that the army in Tunisia is not linked to any ideology and is not accustomed to power, and that relying on it for political adventures is a fantasy.

For his part, the Secretary-General of the Democratic Current affirmed that they demanded the neutralization of the military and security institutions and to distance them from all political quarrels and conflicts, and expressed his hope that they would maintain their neutrality as stipulated in the constitution.

It is noteworthy that the controversy continues in the political arena in Tunisia regarding the measures announced by President Kais Saied in his last speech regarding amendments to the constitution and the electoral law. An authoritarian approach that allows the president to monopolize power for a whole year, pending the return of the stalled parliament.
