China News Service, Beijing, December 15 (Reporter Pang Wuji) The reporter learned from the Natural Resources Comprehensive Survey Command Center of China Geological Survey of the Ministry of Natural Resources of China on the 15th that Zhang Jinbang and Yang Min, who died on duty in Ailao Mountain, Yunnan, were killed by the public security organs. Four geological investigators, Liu Yu, and Zhang Yu conducted forensic examinations: four died of cardiogenic shock caused by low temperature, and deaths from poisoning and mechanical injury were excluded.

According to joint on-site surveys by experts in the fields of public security, geology, meteorology, environment, communications, forestry, mountain rescue, etc., it is believed that the main reasons for the deaths of the four people were: long-term climbing caused excessive physical exertion, instantaneous strong winds and sudden temperature drops in the incident area. The human body loses temperature due to other reasons.

On November 13, 2021, 4 geological survey personnel entered the area from Yuan County to Xinping County, town in the hinterland of Ailao Mountain, Yunnan Province, to perform the national annual forest resources survey special task, and lost contact at 16:00 on November 14.

The search and rescue team found that 4 people had no vital signs at 18:33 on November 21 and 8:32 on 22nd, and unfortunately died on duty.

The reporter learned that the Kunming Natural Resources Comprehensive Survey Center (Kunming Center for short), where the four geological survey personnel are located, is affiliated to the Natural Resources Comprehensive Survey Command Center of the China Geological Survey, and is mainly responsible for the comprehensive survey of natural resources and other tasks.

The four geological survey personnel who died on the job have all passed the training and assessment. This year they have completed the survey task of 32 sample plots in 5 prefectures (cities) in Yunnan Province.

The sample plot No. 6134 visited by 4 geological survey personnel this time has an altitude of 2691 meters and belongs to the continuous national forest inventory sample plot.

On October 23, they hired a local guide to conduct a preliminary route survey.

On November 13, they did not succeed in hiring a guide. In order to complete the task as soon as possible, they carried RTK, tablet computer, forest compass, engineer shovel, machete, snake medicine, bear spray, measuring tape, power bank, etc. according to the needs of the operation. More than 20 kinds of survey operation equipment and food were carried out on the mountain.

At the time of his death, the equipment left for his work was complete, and there was food in his backpack.

The allocated satellite phone was left in the car and was not carried with him.

The Ailao Mountain Nature Reserve, where the work area is located, is the largest primitive Zhongshan wet evergreen broad-leaved forest area in China. It has a special geographic location, complex landforms, and diverse mountain climates. The average altitude is above 2500 meters, and tall trees cover the sky. Shrubs and vines are intertwined, and moss are all over it, and the visibility is poor.

The location where the four geological investigators died was steep and ravines, making it extremely difficult to travel.

According to the results of the joint site survey, the accident area has extremely high humidity, rapid temperature changes, and obvious microclimate characteristics. Severe weather such as local rainstorms, instantaneous strong winds, and sudden drops in temperature are prone to occur, resulting in long-term heavy fog and extreme visibility in the primeval forest. It is low, which makes it difficult to distinguish the direction.
