The owner of an estate in Trélévern (Côtes-d'Armor), near Lannion, has decided to ban hunting and fishing on his land.
Jean-Louis Cagnet wished to offer a haven of tranquility to the local fauna, far from its human predators.
It also intends to protect the flora and provide a secure space for riders, cyclists, walkers and photographers.
He himself is a lover of nature photos.
Conflicts with hunters
Le Breton created this real natural refuge with the help of the Association for the protection of wild animals (Aspas), tells
Le Trégor
.
The organization notably provided him with organizational and legal support, in particular "in these sometimes conflicting situations of disagreement with hunters", commented Jean-Philippe Bouveret, local representative of Aspas.
The manager deplored the "omnipotence" of some of them.
He explained that even land labeled "refuge" can be taken over by hunters tracking a fleeing animal.
This is called the “droit de suite”, which applies in private gardens without fences.
In any case, Jean-Louis Cagnet's approach has been emulated in the region.
