“A group of people who come either from the GUD (former far-right student union, Editor's note) or from Action Française, that is to say from well-known ultra-right movements.” This is how Gérald Darmanin describes the Zouaves, a small group of which the Minister of the Interior announced the dissolution this Sunday to the Grand Jury RTL-LCI-Le Figaro.

It is this group which is suspected of being involved in the violence committed on December 5 during Eric Zemmour's meeting in Villepinte.

"There will be a contradictory as always"

“We have initiated this procedure, there will be a contradictory one, as every time I have done this, I have done it for Generation Identity,” he recalled.

"If the contradictory proves us right, in any case if we think that we are right, we will dissolve this de facto grouping in the Council of Ministers and the Council of State, once again I hope, will prove us right", he continued.

The Minister of the Interior also recalled the dissolutions pronounced against "small Islamist groups", citing the CCIF, BarakyCity and the Cheikh Yassine collective, in the wake of the assassination of Samuel Paty in October 2020.

On December 5, during the first campaign meeting of candidate Eric Zemmour in Villepinte, several SOS Racisme activists, who had exhibited “No to racism” T-shirts, were attacked with punches and throwing chairs by support of the polemicist.

Already implicated in violence on the sidelines of the movement of "yellow vests"

About fifty people, identified by the police as belonging to the Zouaves, posed at the exit of the meeting for a photo, chanting "We are at home", according to an AFP journalist.

“One of the attackers is a person who is a member of the Zouaves Paris (…).

He was recognized by a person from the militant sphere, ”SOS Racisme president Dominique Sopo told AFP.

The small group was also implicated in the violence committed during the demonstrations of the "yellow vests" on December 1, 2018 in Paris and in the attack on a bar of the anti-fascist movement in the district of Ménilmontant in June 2020.
