The vaccination centers are carrying out the booster dose of the coronavirus vaccine in order to deal with the appearance of variants of the coronavirus.

Millions of French people are eligible for vaccination, but which one to choose?

Jean-Paul Hamon, Honorary President of the Federation of Doctors of France disentangles the true from the false.

DECRYPTION

For the Christmas holidays, Olivier Véran has a wish: that 20 million French people have had their recall of the vaccine against the Covid-19, against some 13 million currently.

Vaccination centers have reopened or increased their numbers and the campaign is in full swing.

For this third dose, only Pfizer and Moderna vaccines were authorized.

However, the administration of the latter raises many questions, to the point of being shunned by many French.

Does the vaccine from the Moderna laboratory represent a real danger?

Questioned at the microphone of Europe 1, Jean-Paul Hamon takes stock.

"We must repeat it to people over 30: there is no contraindication to vaccinate in Moderna for those who have had the first two doses of Pfizer", reassured Jean-Paul Hamon on Europe Matin.

Millions of appointments to meet demand

Jean-Paul Hamon explains why the administration of Moderna must be supervised.

"The recommendations for Moderna are clear," he continues.

“In the third dose, you have to do a half-dose of Moderna because we learned that Moderna was more dosed than Pfizer. In a way it was more effective, but it generated side effects in young people which were more important. And that is why it was recommended to only vaccinate people over the age of 30. "

Vaccination booster: why the government is pushing for the use of Moderna

Pfizer and Moderna are therefore not exactly intended for the same audience.

Because of an increased risk of myocarditis (an inflammation of the heart) with Moderna in people under 30 years old, Pfizer should be used as a priority in this age group.

Faced with the difficulties of access to vaccination appointments, government spokesman Gabriel Attal confirmed that "8 million slots" would be added "by the beginning of January" and that the date of the 15th was maintained. January from which a health pass will be deactivated if the vaccine booster is not carried out seven months after the last dose.
