This year, Miss Côte d'Azur is "nature", "authentic" and she says what she thinks.

Valeria Pavelin, a 24-year-old student in dentistry, to become a dental surgeon, affirms her status as a "strong" woman and defends, in the face of criticism, "the choice and the free right to enter the Miss France competition".

This Saturday night, she will face the 28 other contenders for the title.

Just before the curtain rises, she confided in

In a few words, who is Miss Côte d'Azur 2021?

I was born in Zagreb, Croatia, where my family is from.

But I grew up in Saint-Raphaël, in the Var.

I also spent all my summers at Mandelieu-La Napoule.

I then moved to Nice for my studies.

I did five years of general medicine and now I am specializing to become a dental surgeon.

This is my third and I will have three more to finish, no matter what the future holds.

How did you come to participate in this competition?

Like a lot of people and especially a lot of girls I think, I watch the election every year.

And I do a bit of modeling, among other odd jobs, to pay for my education and rent too!

But, during my medical studies, really very busy, I did not even have the opportunity to ask myself the question of participating in the competition or not.

Since I have a little more time with my specialization, I said to myself "why not", but I don't think I would have taken the first step.

And, this summer on Instagram, it was offered to me.

It was the sign I was waiting for [laughs].

Your sister Maria Pavelin, elected Miss Côte d'Azur in 2016 before having to give up for professional reasons, did she give you any advice?

She mostly told me to be myself.

And that suits me well.

That's my nature.

I am nature.

I am really someone genuine I believe, very sociable, solar, curious to discover new people and new things.

And this adventure is all that.

So what do you expect from Miss France "adventure"?

I am already delighted with what it brought me.

In a month and a half, I have matured and grown enormously.

Already because we are far from our family, far from our loved ones and our daily life.

And if I won the crown, I would take advantage of my Miss France title to really defend values that are close to my heart.

Which ones?

There are many. Well, of course, there are animal and environmental causes. This is all really starting to deserve our full attention. It goes through big things and also very small, on a daily basis. Then, in recent years, with my experiences in emergency services, I tell myself that we really need to raise awareness about health issues. And in particular everything related to blood donation, organ donation, bone marrow donation. One blood donation can save three lives. People need to know this. We must also talk about the living conditions of interns ... On the subject of health, I would be able to talk for hours. And I wish I could get things done on my scale. For me, being Miss France is not just a question of beauty, it's having a voice that carries, a voice that you can hear.Maybe not to change the world, but at least to try to make it a little better.

Is that your way of responding to those who deem the contest sexist?

There are always criticisms.

For everything.

Not everyone can agree on everything.

That is.

Those who don't like Miss France may just not watch.

It's only once a year.

And to answer those who accuse the contest of being sexist, I think that to assert oneself on a stage in a swimsuit and to parade in front of millions of people is to be a woman of power.

To feel beautiful, whoever you are, is to be powerful.

We're all here by choice.

No one is forcing us.

We are not more powerful and stronger than by choosing and having the free right to take part in this competition.

And, for me, I find it to be a truly amazing opportunity.
