The youngest bishop of Spain is no longer allowed to exercise his office after his marriage to a woman, an author of erotic-satanic novels.
"As is well known, Bishop Xavier Novell i Gomà, Bishop Emeritus of Solsona, civilly married Ms. Silvia Caballol y Clemente on November 22, 2021 in the city of Suria in the province of Barcelona," said the website of the Spanish Bishops' Conference on Saturday .
Even if he retained his status as bishop, Xavier Novell is now "prohibited from exercising all rights and functions associated with the office of bishop".
The Bishops' Conference, which did not deal with the profession of wife, did not rule out “other possible consequences”.
According to Spanish media reports, the 52-year-old bishop submitted his resignation for “personal reasons” at the end of August.
