The nationwide seven-day incidence of new corona infections has again decreased slightly.

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Friday morning, the value was 413.7.

The day before it was 422.3, a week ago it was 442.1.

As the RKI further reported, citing data from the health authorities, 61,288 new infections were recorded within 24 hours.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the health authorities have reported a total of 6,423,520 cases.

The institute put the number of people recovered from illness caused by the coronavirus in Germany at around 5,329,300.

The total number of corona deaths in Germany rose by 484 to 104,996.

RKI advises greater efforts

The seven-day incidence indicates the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week.

The value has risen rapidly since the beginning of November.

As a result, new highs were recorded every day.

The incidence has been falling steadily since the beginning of the week.

On November 18, the federal and state governments set the so-called hospitalization incidence as the decisive yardstick for tightening the corona measures.

This value indicates how many people per 100,000 inhabitants are in hospital within seven days because of a corona infection.

From a value of three, the 2-G rule applies across the board for events in a federal state - that is, only those vaccinated against the coronavirus and those recovered from Covid-19 are allowed.

According to the RKI, the nationwide hospitalization incidence on Thursday was 5.75.

Despite the slight decrease in the number of new corona infections reported weekly, the RKI advises greater efforts in the fight against the pandemic. The high risk of infection persists in view of the large number of cases, writes the RKI in its weekly report on Thursday. In the first week of December (November 29 to December 5), the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants was four percent lower than the week before.

However, the Prime Minister's Conference, which met on Thursday evening together with the new federal government, did not initially decide on any general contact restrictions over Christmas. However, one will take a close look at the data on the development of the pandemic, especially with regard to the new Omikron variant, and also seek advice from experts, said Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) in the evening.

The virologist Christian Drosten called for quick booster vaccinations in view of the rapid spread of the Omikron variant.

"Anyone who can should now be boosted immediately," he says on ARD.

He points out that the immunity of the vaccinated with Omikron reacts much weaker than with other variants.

Nevertheless, according to information from South Africa, the course of the disease in those who have been vaccinated or recovered is less dangerous than in those who have not been vaccinated.

There is a big problem with the vaccination quota, especially among the over 60-year-olds there is a large vaccination pick.

He asks the unvaccinated to think again.

They are particularly at risk.

Data from several countries showed that the incidence of infections doubled about every three days.
