Very moved, the Filipino journalist Maria Ressa pays tribute to all those who, like her, fight to exercise their profession and deliver the truth.

Then she accuses the tech giants of allowing hatred and violence to spread on social networks: “

Our greatest need today is to transform this hatred and this violence.

This toxic sludge that runs through our information ecosystem, favored by American Internet companies who earn money by spreading this hatred, which causes the worst in us.

It means that we have to work more.

For the best to happen, we need to believe in a better world.

"

A minute of silence for the journalists killed

The Filipino journalist warns against the dangers of false information, especially in times of pandemic or elections.

"

I do not know what will happen to me when I return home in the evening

, admits Maria Ressa, regularly threatened with death.

But the risks are worth it

”.

At his side, his

Russian colleague Dmitri Muratov

, co-winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, asks for a minute's silence for journalists killed in the exercise of their profession.

According to Reporters Without Borders, they are at least 46 to have lost their lives in 2021.
