The public prosecutor Jérôme Bourrier and Monsignor Marc Aillet, bishop of Bayonne, Lescar and Oloron (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) signed a protocol on Thursday.

This aims to support the freedom of speech of victims of sexual abuse committed in the diocese since the 1950s.

This is not the first protocol of this type since there are about twenty between the dioceses and the prosecution, notes France 3 Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

A facilitated flow of information

The document is directly inspired by the report of the commission on sexual abuse committed within the Church (Ciase) since the 1950s, presented on October 5.

It intends to facilitate the flow of information between members of the Church and representatives of justice.

It contains 45 recommendations, including the systematization of the opening of a preliminary investigation, even in the event of prescribed facts.

The Penal Code also authorizes the revelation by members of the Church of serious abuse or sexual assault on minors under 15 or vulnerable persons.

The non-denunciation of these facts being sanctioned, the bishop is authorized to denounce them.
