High school students from Kanagawa prefecture, who are visiting Miyakojima in Okinawa prefecture on a school trip, picked up pumice stones and garbage that had washed ashore on the coast and learned about the current state of the sea.

A total of 94 second-year students from Komyo Gakuen Sagamihara High School in Kanagawa Prefecture, who have been visiting Miyakojima since the 5th of this month on a school trip, carried out activities to remove pumice stones and clean up the beach.

The students who gathered at the beach in Ueno, Miyakojima City, were collecting garbage such as pumice stones and styrofoam drifting on the sandy beach one after another.

One of the boys said, "I wish I could get rid of the pumice stones and let the people who come to Miyakojima see the beautiful sea."

One of the female students said, "I'm glad we all cleaned up because pumice stones affect the creatures in the sea. It was a good experience because I can't usually do it."

The students are planning to practice diving during the school trip and obtain a license, and teacher Miyoko Ogawa said, "I removed the pumice stones on the first day when I came to Miyakojima. There is no effect on diving and the students are enjoying themselves. I will. "
