• TF1 broadcasts this Saturday the annual Miss France ceremony then, next Tuesday, the final of

    Koh-Lanta: The legend

    .

  • Behind these two programs, a woman: Alexia Laroche-Joubert.

  • The television producer gives an interview to

    20 Minutes

to discuss the threats and insults that particularly affect the participants and participants of these two programs.

The coming days will not be easy for Alexia Laroche-Joubert. This week, the television producer is in Caen as president of the company Miss France to oversee the ceremony of the competition which is held this Saturday on TF1. Three days later, the channel will broadcast the final of

Koh-Lanta: The Legend

, a program it also produces.

What do these two shows have in common?

They arouse a lot of comments on social networks, and in particular some insults or even threats, like the case of April Benayoum, Miss Provence 2021, who convicted seven people for having made anti-Semitic comments online.

Alexia Laroche-Joubert returns for

20 Minutes

on this microphenomenon which particularly concerns the programs for which she is responsible.

Several “Koh-Lanta” candidates have lodged a complaint this year after receiving insults and threats.

We have the impression that it is more and more recurrent, can you confirm?

It is a problem which is now unfortunately recurring and against which we are fighting a lot. It's recent, after all. The first appearance of this magnitude is in 2020 with

The Island of Heroes

. We put it under confinement. As always, three poor pimply and surly teenagers attacked Ahmad, Charlotte, Inès, Régis… Three lodged a complaint because it nevertheless took a different turn with real threats so we seized the public prosecutor . We thought it was linked to confinement. In the end, it turns out that on

The Legend

, we found ourselves faced with racist, criminally reprehensible remarks for Coumba and Namadia, and insults with death threats on Christelle, which appeared when Gilles Verdez, in

Touche pas à mon poste

, mentioned the fact that 'she would have given the name Teheiura to the production team, which was not the case.

There, there was a conflagration.

In interviews, several of them say that broadcasting is difficult to live with ...

A real job is done by the support teams and by the psychologist to prevent them from negative effects. In general, there is a whole brief that is made on how to behave on the networks: pay attention to what you say, do not insult other candidates. There is a code of honor that has been put in place, as well as legal support. If there is a multitude of attacks, they can contact our legal department who explains how to file a complaint. We do not hesitate to use our own networks to calm or temper, TF1 has done it too. We suggested to our adventurers, including Christelle, to use the Bodyguard software which allows messages to be censored with keywords that would be insults. The reality is that there is a legal advance which

leads us

to

disclose

[reveals] the identity of people.

Sites like Facebook or Twitter are forced to censor.

As soon as there is a report, they are obliged to delete.

As a producer, do you think particularly about editing, even if it means smoothing out a few lines to avoid too much vehemence online?

What is complicated is that we have always been in the truth of what was happening.

Adventurers sometimes reproach us for it because they can have an idyllic vision of their adventure, or at least truncated.

No, we are not changing.

Besides, look at Claude, we balanced his nervous blows.

You had to tighten the screw at the start of the season by communicating on the court decision which prohibits spoils.

It is also a new aspect in television.

Why did you take such a decision?

It was linked to gambling on Teheiura who had cheated.

We didn't want malicious people spoiling this and the twists and turns.

There are people who gave the name of all the exits to each episode!

There is a time when that isn't possible: you don't have to spoil people when they don't want to know.

We live this adventure for viewers and adventurers too, it's not so that we reveal everything because guys want to appear smarter or better informed.

Did you actually file a complaint following certain revelations?

We lodged a complaint, the platforms gave us the IPs.

We had a conviction on someone who had revealed spoils and we made a summary conviction.

Obviously, we take it very seriously and I put a lot of energy into it.

The problem of threats is also invited in Miss France.

Last year, April Benayoum was the victim of anti-Semitic comments against her.

Is it possible to anticipate things?

April obtained the conviction of seven people.

It is important, it proves that it is very serious and that it is taken seriously now.

After that, it is the responsibility of the platforms.

We cannot be held responsible for what is said on platforms of which we are not the editors.

With TF1, we are responsible for what we produce or publish on Miss France at the time of the show.

But we can't be responsible for the way people react on social media.

Are we turning to a judicialization of the world of television?

I would always do anything to defend individuals who have been put on the air.

We cannot file a complaint for them, we can make a report.

We are responsible for the protection of the mark and we are in the civil framework.

Honestly, I could regret it because all the actions that we take, it is because there is either correctional, or a spoiler so we are on the same register as the business secrecy.

So it is not the judicialization of television but the increase in violence on social networks?

Spoils are serious for us, but they are not criminal.

Threats are the cause of a few scattered individuals but it is not the reality of exchanges on social networks where people normally express their passion for one team or another.

They do not contribute to the criminal complaint, that is to say the anti-Semitic, racist remarks or the death threats.

The problem is that we put forward bad guys when a lot of people behave very well.
