A futuristic vision of the concept of sustainability, presented through the festive season celebrations, embodied in a tree model made of carbon-neutral screens, and carrying the concept of protecting the environment from climate change for visitors to Mall of the Emirates.

The message presented by the show is embodied in the tree that consists of green spaces, and then in a moment of silence the tree catches fire, burns and turns to ashes, which contributes to presenting a message aimed at encouraging visitors to commit to a more sustainable life.

Presented once an hour by a carbon-neutral LED-lit tree show, the experience highlights how communities can work together to reduce negative environmental impacts.

Visitors will be encouraged to commit to a more sustainable life by making a unique promise, whereby Majid Al Futtaim will plant a tree for every pledge made.

Ibrahim Al-Zoubi, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim, told Emirates Today about this initiative, saying: "Sustainability is an integral part of Majid Al Futtaim's business strategy, and over the past 10 years, our efforts have focused on linking existing sustainability concepts with the desired goals. from work, and that any decision taken within the company is taken into consideration that environmental, economic and social sustainability must be at the heart of the decision.” He pointed out that since 2016, they have worked to change the work system, so that sustainable work has been relied upon, so that the environment is given more than what is consumed from it. Al-Zoubi noted that there are commitments by Al-Futtaim to the circular economy and community development, supporting jobs and investment in the region, health and safety, and quality of life, and this is linked to the sustainable development goals.

On the goals related to achieving sustainability, Al-Zoubi stressed that the most prominent goals revolve around joint cooperation to provide the concept of a clean environment, reduce climate change, water quality and quality of life, and infrastructure, so that the principle of sustainability becomes a way of life, and thus natural challenges become part of the daily work. He explained that it is necessary to educate the various segments of society, considering that the Conference of Parties to Climate Change, which will be organized in the UAE, in 2023, is an opportunity to raise awareness and achieve goals.

Regarding their sustainability plan in Mall of the Emirates, he pointed out that 4 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy is produced in the center, water consumption has been reduced by seven percent, carbon emissions have been reduced by four percent, and 32 percent of waste is recycled. And all these numbers are only the beginning, emphasizing their quest to achieve the status of a sustainable center.

Michelle Walsh, Senior Director of Communications and Marketing at Majid Al Futtaim Shopping Centers, said: “The festive season is the perfect time for giving and is characterized by joy, generosity, festive atmosphere, participation and teamwork.

The festive season is also a distinct celebration of belonging, and we all, as societies and individuals, have to play a prominent role in supporting and protecting the environment. One of the happiest moments for everyone.”
