Faced with the proliferation of cats roaming free on the Iroise Islands (Finistère), the association of the Ponant Islands (AIP) has launched a campaign aimed at the owners of these felines.
The objective is to identify, or even sterilize, the animals.
For this, financial assistance is offered to volunteer teachers, explains France Bleu Breizh Izel.
It amounts to 30 euros for an identification and 50 euros per sterilized cat.
Supporting invoice
To benefit from this help, it is necessary to be domiciled on the islands of Molène, Sein or Ouessant and live there permanently.
The owners must also provide an invoice from the veterinarian who performed the operations and fill out a form.
In the event of an unidentified cat wandering, the animal will subsequently be liable to be captured.
"Cats abandoned without an owner will be evacuated to shelters on the continent," warned Denis Bredin, director of the AIP.
The animals represent a danger for the fauna of the Breton islands and their biodiversity.
The felines in the wild attack in particular small seabirds such as Storm Oceanites.
