Météo-France placed the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department on avalanche yellow vigilance this Tuesday afternoon.
The alert will remain in effect until Thursday evening.
It is level 3, except in the massifs of Ubaye and Haut-Var / Haut-Verdon in areas where the altitude exceeds 2,400 m.
Vigilance then goes to level 4 on this device which has a total of five, specifies

Hikers and skiers asked to be careful
In the places concerned, activities in mountainous environments must therefore be carried out with the greatest care.
Caution is particularly recommended for hikers.
The practice of off-piste skiing is excluded.
The concern of specialists is due to the heavy snowfall that was expected in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday.
The meteorological phenomenon is likely to create fragile snow patches.
These present a risk of collapse when a walker or a skier passes and could then cause the spontaneous departure of an avalanche.
