Nearly 90 teachers from the Voltaire high school in Orléans La Source (Loiret), or 60% of the workforce, decided on Tuesday to assert their right of withdrawal.
Gathered in a general assembly, they also voted for a strike notice.
Their goal is to denounce the lack of supervisors and growing insecurity within the establishment for a week, says France Bleu Orléans.
This high school welcoming 2,000 students is facing an unprecedented situation due to Covid-19.
All school life staff and childcare centers were declared a contact case and placed in isolation.
No replacement was subsequently made.
Risk for teachers and students
With this absence of supervisory staff, many degradations were noted.
Some students would have fun setting off the fire alarm, cutting off the electricity or emptying the extinguishers in the hallway.
The principal Jérôme Baretje explained that he had never "imagined that the pupils would behave like this".
“Our safety but that of the students was also clearly in danger,” said Julien Legeay, teacher representative.
