The municipality of Mandelieu evokes a “historic” date.
This Wednesday, this community of the Alpes-Maritimes, near Cannes, became “officially owner of the orchards of Minelle”, a space of 14 hectares which “will host a flood expansion zone”, she announces.
This acquisition, concluded after tough negotiations for a budget of 2 million euros fully funded by the municipality, will allow it "to protect people, property and the environment from climate risk", she also rejoices.
On the evening of October 3, 2015, during a real deluge across the west of the Alpes-Maritimes, eight people were killed, trapped in the flooded basements of a housing estate built nearby, on the edge of du Riou de l'Argentière.
The purchase of this land, previously owned by the Casino group, and their transformation into a flood expansion zone were "recommended by the hydraulic experts", according to the town hall.
She announces that she "will proceed to the entry of the financial credits necessary for the realization of the studies in the 2022 budget and will present to the population soon the main axes of this project".
This space will eventually host "one of the largest interurban natural parks in Europe", she also boasts.
