The last lion king of Lyon has died

His majesty has passed away.

Jasraj, the last lion who still lived in the zoo of the Tête d'Or park in Lyon, died at the end of the week,

revealed on Tuesday

.

The animal would probably have succumbed to gastroenteritis.

An unexpected death, his state of health would have deteriorated suddenly.

The beast arrived in Lyon in 2011. Since the disappearance of his feline companion last year, he now slept alone on his rock, often out of sight.

Born in Zurich in Switzerland, Jasraj will have lived only 13 years, reports the regional daily.

There are no plans to replace it.

The municipality had indicated on several occasions that it no longer wished to accommodate large mammals in its zoo.
