Spain will begin vaccinating children between the ages of 5 and 11 against Covid as of December 15.

The Public Health Commission approved this Tuesday the expansion of the

vaccination against in this age range in a meeting that still continues. As advanced this morning by Minister

Carolina Darias

, who was in Brussels at the EPSCO meeting, which brings together European Health Ministers, the autonomous communities will be in charge of deciding the specific modality for the administration of vaccines, in centers health, in mass vaccination centers or in schools.

The vaccination campaign in children is scheduled to begin on the 13th, when the first doses of the drug will be received, as initially announced by Minister Darias last week after the

Interterritorial Health Council

held in Córdoba. Spain will receive

1.3 million childhood vaccines

in December and another 2 million vaccines in January, which would represent the possibility of vaccinating with the first dose of the two necessary to the

3.2 million children

in Spain in the strip from 5 to 11 years old.

Autonomous communities such as Castilla y León demanded since last week to know in more detail the cadence with which the vaccines will arrive in order to schedule the reservation of second doses and decide with more certainty if a mass vaccination in specific vaccination centers or if, for the less availability of vaccines, the best strategy would be a staggered one in schools.

Other autonomies such as Galicia have advanced since they will vaccinate minors in mass vaccination centers as soon as they begin to receive childhood vaccines, which will be distributed to the autonomies in proportion to the number of children to be vaccinated they have.

The green light for children's anticovid vaccines in Spain comes almost two weeks after the European Medicines Agency endorsed their inoculation.
